July 26, 2021 — When’s the last time you spoke with anyone anywhere that the conversation did not begin with, “Can you believe this heat?!” Over the weekend, Cardie Judy Cortner emailed us these few lines that say it all:

Heat and I are not friends.
Not even acquaintances.
Heat is obtrusive
and overbearing.
Heat presents itself
innocently enough,
bright and sunny,
BUT …
Now, warmth,
that is another story.

Happily, to beat the heat, we Cardies have this cool and beautiful, effortless thing we can always do: Sit back, scribble a thoughtful note, add a stamp!  😍  So to start a new week off on a happy note, we thought we’d show you some light and refreshing summer designs and share a bit of trivia …

The reason this time of year is referred to as the Dog Days of Summer is because it’s when the Sun shares the sky with Sirius, which is commonly called the Dog Star. Being the brightest star visible from Earth, the Dog Star shines so powerfully July 3 through August 11 each year that the ancients believed it must be radiating heat and adding to the Sun’s warmth. Thus, they began to refer to these hot, hot weeks as the “diēs caniculārēs,” or “dog days.”

Soon enough, we’ll be wishing icicles away, so what say we do our best to chill now … we got this!
