July 29, 2025 – Aren’t we all relieved to read weather reports indicating that the sky-high temps will be easing up and not sticking around like, say, magnets with the superior staying power of those shown above. (See how we slipped that little sales plug in there. 😆)
Seriously, though, it will be good to cool off and not have to worry so much about becoming dehydrated or scorching sweet dog paws on blistering hot surfaces.
Around this time last summer, we wrote here that we were trying to spend our energy wisely: Rather than wearing ourselves down-and-out whining, “Can you believe this heat?!” we aim to embrace it with gratitude. “Thanks, God, that we have AC, and the resources to pay for it. Thanks for all the water we drink and the wisdom to drink it! Bless those who are doing their all to combat climate change (especially if we are not :( And protect those who labor or live with no roof over their heads.”
In response, it was fun reading comments from clever Contributing Cardies:
“I love that prayer!” said Judy Sherman. “Adding to it my thankfulness for ceiling fans. They do make a difference! And Starbucks addict that I am, I also love their Sky drink and cold brews. Here in NC, we have been ‘enjoying’ 90+ degree days with matching humidity, but hey, at least there’s no ice on the roads. HA! Happy summer and love to all :)
Toni Hoepf described herself as “one of those odd ducks who enjoy the heat. It’s been in the 90s and I’ve yet to turn my AC on. I will say, if I’m hot, just cooling my feet seems to work for my whole body. Of course, all bets are off if you are in Arizona in July. Yes, it’s a dry heat, but you might as well just be sticking your head in an oven!” 😅
Ever-active Candy Clausell suggested, “Drive in your A/C cooled car or hop on the local bus to a gym near you and ride a bike or walk on a treadmill. They generally keep facilities nice and cool. And check if you can bring a guest: Two cool ;)
Madeline Stockbridge proposed, “Ride a noodle in a lake. One summer, we had a family reunion at the cottage, and it was so hot we couldn’t stand to even be in the cottage! We all grabbed noodles and rode them like bikes as we chatted the day away. Sheer bliss. 😍”
Care to share any other wise or fanciful ways you beat the heat? There might be a FREE magnet in it for you. 😉

As one super-sensitive to heat (thank you med side effects), this kind of weather is very challenging. The image with this CNews made me think of one of my favorite ways to survive the heat – eating Outshine bars (which I call a healthier version of popsicles, as they are made with real fruit). Like Candy, I exercise inside, but use YouTube videos instead. You can find pretty much any kind of workout you’re looking for. (Just know that terms like “beginner” are very subjective, I started as less than a beginner at most things). And having a cat is my best way to beat the heat. Rose will look so overheated and miserable – so I adjust the thermostat. For me, I’m about frugality, but for her … I’m a soft touch.
As an aside, I have a friend who says no magnets stick to her fridge…but Cardthartic’s do. So plug away.
Today I took a walk and pursued streets with shade trees. During the walk I took a break from listening to my usual podcasts by calling my lifelong friend, Madeline.
She said even WI was hot. It is saying something when WI is hot !
Stay cool cardies. Good day to sit under a nice ceiling fan and write a few cards ;)
