Debbie Duffy

Debbie Duffy postage stamp headshot“Back in 1957 (gulp!) the first place I was allowed to go alone was the post office. Box number 143! I was in heaven. I loved everything about my excursions: the freedom of walking the one and 1/2 blocks alone, the smell of wood and pipe smoke, and maybe primarily knowing that the postmaster, Mr. Harrington, knew my name and box number. ‘I must be famous!’

“I LOVED getting cards and was lucky to have wonderful aunts, uncles, and many family friends who sent me cards from a mile away for my birthday and every holiday. Quarters were often taped inside, sometimes a two-dollar bill (still my favorite!) and occasionally a five! The money was fun, but the envelopes with my name were the best.

“My love of sending and receiving cards hasn’t waned a bit.”
