July 15, 2025 – When Cardthartic’s art curator, Luda, first spotted this image and proposed that it had card potential, we questioned whether it might actually be a photo of a Hallmark Keepsake ornament — the pair posing there with their zinnia looked so perfectly perfect (as far as frogs go :) But, nope, these two Wallace’s Flying Frogs were photographed lolling on a limb in an Indonesian rainforest where they’re known to glide tree-to-tree, 50 feet through the air.
We thought they were a fun match for the card message submitted by Robin Prevade, who is unique among our Contributing Cardies in that she is the first professional card writer we’ve published. As many of you already know, for more than 30 years now, our thousands of card messages have bubbled up from within this community of kindred spirits. Biologists, psychologists, teachers, realtors — not trained writers, Contributing Cardies are caring people with a talent for putting feelings into words.
It was only when we emailed Robin to let her know we wished to publish her message that we learned, “More than 1,100 of my verses have been published by 25 greeting card companies.” Wow! To the idea of card number 1,101, this proud and prolific lover of cards responded with, “You just made my day! I am so glad you liked the verse! The image is great! For the dedication, I’d like to say, ‘Keep on fighting, dear Meg,’ to honor my BFF who has been bravely battling cancer for two years now. Excited to share it with her!”
Robin’s dedication for, and devotion to, her friend Meg took me back to an email from Contributing Cardie Paige Baker, who wrote to ask, “Is there a Cardthartic card that says, ‘Fight Like a Girl!’ If not, there should be.”
Paige went on to explain, “I have been using that phrase to power up the fight of a lifetime that my darling high school girlfriend is facing. I recently heard myself pleading my case to her, ‘You know how to fight. And you are brave!’ I said, ‘Remember that time when we were 17, the two of us walking home alone through the golf course at night (brilliant!) stopping when we saw that stray dog up ahead staring us down? Then seeing that it was actually a coyote with five of his friends! With a dozen menacing eyes all trained on us, my heart was pounding so hard, and you just quietly said, ‘Don’t move.’ I didn’t. And 30 seconds later, you started screaming like a banshee, waving your arms, jumping up and down, sending the whole pack packing.’
“I told her, ‘I have never forgotten that moment of seeing your pure strength and bravery. That was you. That IS you. Fight like a girl, my friend.’ The memory made her laugh, so now I tell her, ‘Fight Like a Coyote!’ and it makes her laugh more.”
That’s what the best friendships are all about, right? Being willing to face wild animals or glide 50 feet through the air if that’s what it takes to be there by a true friend’s side for life’s joys and through its many challenges.
